Lake Toba Delight
4 Days 3 Nights Trip
Day 1: Arrive in Medan – Lake Toba – boat to Samosir Island
Arrival in Kualanamu airport in Medan. It is the main city in northern Sumatra. Then, departure ± 5 hours to lake Toba, one of the deepest and largest crater lake in the world via town of Tebingtinggi and Pematang Siantar with its vast view of oilpalm and rubber plantation. Arrive in Parapat, a small town on shore of lake Toba across the lake on about 45 minutes to Samosir island using public boat. It is enjoyable trip. The boat will probably stops several times to drop other passengers. You will be dropped right in front of your accomodation located on peninsula of Tuktuk.
Accomodation at TABO COTTAGE / TOLEDO INN (or similar), simple accomodation but nicely located by the lake side
Day 2: Samosir Tour (B)
Breakfast at the hotel. Drive around the island to explore the natural beauty and cultural aspects of Batak Toba. You will visit Ambarita village where the remnant megalithic culture of Batak Toba lies in front of traditional houses. Continue to Simanindo to see folkdance Tortor performed by the villagers. Here you also can visit a museum built in typical Batak style. On returning to your hotel, stop at Tomok village to see a very old but nicely decorated sarchopagus, the old tomb of king Batak Toba Sidabutar.
Arrive in Parapat transfer to a local Rest fo lunch, afterward crossover lovely Lake Toba by motorboat. It takes 30 minutes to get to the island - a huge island in the middle of Lake Toba, centre of Batak culture and the original home of the Bataks, the tribe that is known for their fierceness and warm hearts. Arrive in Samosir check in and dinner at the hotel.
Day 3: Samosir – Berastagi (B)
Across back the lake by boat on about 45 minutes to Parapat. Then scenic drive to the cool and picturesque hill town Berastagi (1300m), the setting dominated by two active volcanoes Sinabung (2417m) and Sibayak (2172m). It is the homeland of the Batak Karo, one of the six Batak tribes that inhabit the province of North Sumatra. The drive takes about 5 hours with stop at Rumah Bolon, the long house of king Batak Simalungun. Next stop at Sipiso piso waterfall and Dokan, a small Batak Karo village with a number of traditional houses still inhabited by eight families each. The last stop before your hotel is local fruit market in Berastagi. Accomodation at GRAND MUTIARA / SIBAYAK HOTEL (or similar).
Day 4: Berastagi – Medan Airport (B)
Pick up from your hotel and transfer to airport ± 4 hours drive.
